Planning loft conversion. One home owner dissented so surveyor has inspected and found a crack in ceiling near party wall in the neighbour's property. Will only make award if builders use hand tools. Builders are asking us if we will take on responsibility for additional damage that may occur to this crack, as using hand tools is not a 100% guarantee that the existing damage will not get worse (ie plaster falling down, damage to carpets, furnishings, individuals property etc). Expecting us to see if our buildings insurance will cover it (failing that, for us to pay for the damage that may happen - a licence for them to do what they like as roughly as they like) Builders don't want to rely on their public liability insurance. Is it normal for a builder to expect such a clause?. Surveyor seems to think not. What are the chances of getting our deposit back?
